Let's Start Hot Tubbing

As I was writing a paper at Trinity today in the "atrium", a Muslim speaker was talking about his faith and his beliefs and I began wondering what it would be like if we invited different faiths into our Hot Tub. I'm not talking about this blog, but actually in a hot tub with us. We ask them questions about their faith and what they believe. I think that this would be fun. We should make a wish list of who we would want to share a hot tub with.

Pop quiz hotshot: Top 5 People to share the Tub with. These have to be realistic people that we could get in the tub. For example, people of different faiths, professors, pastors, priests, etc. The only rule for them is that they have to respect beer in the hot tub.

P.S. If you haven't heard, The Pipeline Porter at Bargainica is the business!

Let's talk about Creed(s)

No, not the band, but the very thing that ties our beliefs together. Let's start at the Apostles Creed. Here is a traditional version of it to read:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN.

How is this speaking into the Hot Tub? How might we interpret some of this? Maybe it is the very reason we are here discussing our faith. do you think that parts may have been influenced heavily and possibly too "Catholic" in some ways (communion of saints not the word catholic itself). what do you think?

Let's discuss Creeds.

Jesus Camp

We watched Jesus Camp today. It was a movie regarding the need for Christians to recapture America for Christianity. We paralleled this with Gregory Boyd's "Myth of a Christian Nation" (Chapter 6) and the thought that America never was a christian nation.
